UNITED WAY: Awards bestowed upon Trines, Wickard By Yvonne Paske-Schroeder |
|||||||||
Angola - With the first fundraising campaign under her belt as the new executive director of the Steuben County United Way, Ruth Mattox trained a bright smile on organizers, volunteers and top contributors for 2006 gathered to celebrate at Bennigan's in Angola Wednesday. While the campaign fell short of a $350,000 goal at $217,000, fund-raising chair Steve Wertman pointed to the positives. "That's 150 percent over last year," he said. "Thanks to [Steuben County Businesses] for their time, money, motivation and incentives, and we look ahead to a brighter 2007" The United Way will have some talented leadership in that arena in Tri-State University director of student retention Deb McHenry, who will chair the 2007 campaign. "I'm looking forward to the challenge and working with these companies and individuals," McHenry told the crowd. "I think this is something our community can do together and I really appreciate your support." Mattox thanked her supporters during her inaugural year. "We can do none of this alone," she said.
